Amsterdam

July 17th – July 20th 2018

Upon departure from the train we noticed the transportation of choice, is the bicycle.  There were thousands and thousands of bicycles.  Pretty sure we almost got taken out by at least a couple. img_7740.jpg We enjoyed the Heineken Experience.  We thought it was even better than visiting the Guinness Brewery in Ireland.  We did take a river cruise and Rick asked the waitress about the cleanliness of the water (it didn’t look clean at all ) and she grabbed a clear glass and reached out the boat and pulled some water out and it was crystal clear.  She did say she still wouldn’t drink any of it.  We saw where Anne Frank hid for two years, but was unable to obtain tickets.  I didn’t know we were coming to Amsterdam this soon and needed to get tickets 2 months prior.  So hopefully we can return.  We went to an Ice Bar where is was -9 degrees.  It was fun and different.  You purchase two shots of alcohol with the ticket and really just slam them and get out as it is pretty chilly.  IMG_7830We made sure to visit the Red Light District, but during the day.  We still saw some lovely ladies in their windows.  I really liked the carefree atmosphere and city hustle and bustle.  I would really love to spend more time there.

Sunny Worthing

July 15, 2018

June and Tony treated us to a lovely lunch and then drove us to see Worthing, UK.  The pictures don’t really do justice as it is a very pretty area.  The views of the English Channel were beautiful.  The little white boxes were storage units that people rent and use when they want to spend time at the Channel.  They have it loaded with their belongings and all they have to do is show up.

Arrival

July 11, 2018

We arrived tired yet happy to be here, finally.  Our layover in Iceland was an experience as it is a tiny airport and yet we were so confused as to where our gate was located.  We checked into hotel only to discover air conditioning is not a given in England.  Three days of one window and a fan that only partially worked.  So Obviously we did the only thing sane people would do, stay outside during the day and sight see and visit pubs.

We met with our landlords, Jane and Patrick.  They showed us their lovely home and by the looks of it they do a lot of travelling.  Their place is full of beautiful pictures.

Our friends, June & Tony picked us up and took us to their home in Bramley.  They always come to our rescue.  We stayed a few days there and then headed off to Amsterdam.

We are glad you have chosen to follow us on our dream vacation.  As many of you know this has been a 4 year plan.  It is hard to believe the time has arrived and our journey is beginning.  We are nervous and yet so overcome with excitement of what this expedition will bring our way.
